EXPLORING SOCIAL HEALTH: INTRODUCTION TO THE SHOW
Psychiatrist and Associate Professor of Public Health at Drexel University, Dr. Sandra Bloom and Social Worker, Sarah Yanosy have been working together for a quarter of a century and in introducing themselves to the listeners, they will share some of their own stories about first confronting traumatic experiences in children and adults within mental health settings and how that is leading to a wider understanding about our culture – its strengths and its deficits. In the second segment, Dr. Bloom and Ms. Yanosy will explore the idea that groups of people: families, organizations, and whole societies are “ biocracies” - living systems rather than machines. This recognition leads to a different mental model for addressing the complex problems that confront us every day and this has led Dr. Bloom and Ms. Yanosy to develop an online organizational approach for becoming “trauma-informed” and “trauma-responsive” called Creating Presence. In the third segment, our hosts introduce the word PRESENCE as an acronym for the eight sets of principles that characterize the key virtues of living systems and that will serve as a framework for the broadcasts from Week 2 through Week 13. The hosts will preview the topics of guest interviews for the coming weeks.
