PART 2: SAFETY & SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY - JOURNALISM AND TRAUMA

PART 2: SAFETY & SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY - JOURNALISM AND TRAUMA
In the first segment, Dr. Bloom and Ms. Yanosy will expand on the important issue of Safety and Social Responsibility by focusing on organizational safety, chronic stress, and the lack of cultural safety. They will describe the toll it is taking on our culture, fueled by social media and instantaneous access to both information and misinformation. The second and third segments will focus on “trauma-informed” journalism as represented by the work of the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma, a project of Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and directed by Bruce Shapiro. Mr. Shapiro will be accompanied by Dr. Elana Newman, McFarlin Professor of Psychology at the University of Tulsa, who is the Research Director for the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma. A past president of the International Society of Traumatic Stress Studies, she co-directed the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma’s first satellite office in NYC after 9/11.
