Special Encore Presentation: Gender Controversy and Confusion
More and more headlines relate to the horrendous treatment of gays, lesbians and transgenders - not just by adults, but by schoolchildren. Recent headlines include a high school student who describes himself as a gender-non-conforming gay person suing his school for insensitivity to bullying, and the controversy over transgender kids and school bathrooms. Today's guest, Dr. Elizabeth Meyer, is a professor at California Polytechnic State University in the School of Education, the author of Gender, Bullying and Harassment, and the editor of Supporting Transgender and Gender-Creative Youth. Her experience as a former high school teacher has given her an inside perspective.
