Thai Boys: Out of the Cave But Not Out of the Woods

We all watched breathlessly until the 12 boys and their soccer coach were rescued from the cave. It's a miracle that they survived their entrapment and rescue, as Dr. Carole - a former scuba diving doctor and scuba diver, herself, explains. But, their challenges aren't over. Their stay in the hospital is likely to overcome any medical problems that arise-such as problems with their heart, lungs, kidney, liver and infections. But, the psychological trauma is not as easy to heal. Listen, as Dr. Carole describes how their pre-cave childhood affects their prognosis. She describes the psychological disorders they are likely to have, such as PTSD. What is PTSD, anyway, and how will this affect them? What should their psychiatric treatment be? Why does everyone want to believe that they are perfect and won't have any psychological problems once they leave the hospital? What impact will this have on the boys and their coach? Why aren't they out of the woods? Dr. Carole explains it all.
