Why Women Are Obsessed with France and Other Secrets

Why Women Are Obsessed with France and Other Secrets
Today's guest, Fiona Lewis, has just released a most charming memoir, Mistake Were Made (Some in French). Although she's had a glamorous life as a model, actress and writer who has traveled the world, all women will identify with the personal conundrums she lays bare. And men will be intrigued. Struggling to find her identity, she is unconsciously drawn back to the South of France, the site of her happiest childhood memories, a respite from the clouds of her native England. Having then lived an enviable life in California, Fiona wakes up one day in her fifties and asks herself, Is this it? Is this the existence I’m meant to have? Her life has been full of adventure and privilege, but now, she feels lost. Realizing she has to find a way to reinvent herself, she impulsively-and against her husband’s wishes, buys a rundown chateau in the South of France. Alone, and in the interminable process of restoring the chateau, she contemplates her life and has epiphanies about love and herself.
