The Forever Changing New Normal: Empowering Parents
Distance learning, hybrid learning, and asynchronous learning are all new adaptations to our children's learning environment since the global pandemic began. How has the new normal forever changing the way our children are being taught? Why has parenting required major modifications since the pandemic? COVID-10 has radically changed the way teachers carry out lesson plans, the way students learn and electronically turn in assignments, and the way parents are facing challenges they've never faced prior to this deadly virus. As a tutor who has conducted hundreds of virtual tutoring sessions as well as in-person sessions wearing her mask and abiding by the social distancing protocols since April 2020, Guest Karen Gibson has experienced new academic challenges as an educator. Karen's students have had to discover how to modify their learning styles, and how to practice new strategies to help them succeed in the classroom and at home in front of their laptops. Parents require extra training to support their kids during this forever-changing New Normal in education. Taking photos of homework assignments, drawing on a whiteboard during a virtual tutoring session, and troubleshooting technical difficulties don't come naturally to many parents and students. As an educator for 27 years plus a parent coach for the past 2 years, Karen has discovered creative ways to make a parents' job less stressful. Her latest book, One Hundred Parenting Tips inspired by the Pandemic, teaches parents how to raise resilient, responsible, and respectable children during a global pandemic. The obstacles parents face can grow tenfold causing stress, frustration, and worry. Karen explains through her parenting tips, how to express emotions effectively while preventing mental meltdowns, struggles, and anxiety and shares advice on how to raise kids with encouragement, during the forever-changing New Normal in education and at home.
