An Epidemic of Women and Alcohol & Resiliency of Youth in Foster Care

Kathryn interviews award-winning journalist Ann Dowsett Johnston, author of “DRINK: The Intimate Relationship Between Women and Alcohol”. Named one of Washington Post's best books of 2013, DRINK takes aim at an alarming epidemic: the worrisome rise in binge drinking and alcohol abuse among girls and women. Dowsett Johnston reveals how dangerous levels of female drinking are on the upswing, precipitated in part by an unmitigated push by the alcohol industry to woo women drinkers from an early age. Kathryn also interviews freelance writer Lisa A. Mazzeo LCSW, author of “Who Can Catch the Moon? Heartfelt, Humorous and Compelling Stories of Resiliency in Society’s Most Vulnerable Children”. Mazzeo takes readers on a journey inside the system showing us the outcomes of youth that leave foster care without a family. Mazzeo has held numerous leadership positions in state and non-profit agencies serving vulnerable populations.
