Dr. Jan Yager is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Sociology Department at John Jay College of Criminal Justice/CUNY. Since Fall 2014, Dr. Yager has taught criminology, victimology, and sociology courses at John Jay. Previously she taught at U of Connecticut, Penn State, St. John’s U, Temple U, and other colleges and universities. Dr. Yager has a Ph.D. in sociology from CUNY Graduate Center, an M.A. in criminal justice from Goddard College Graduate Program, and she did a year of graduate work in art therapy at Hahnemann Medical College. Author of 70+ award-winning books, with translations into 35 languages, including Victims, the textbook Essentials of Victimology (Aspen Publishing, 2022; 2 nd edition, 2025), When Friendship Hurts (Simon & Schuster), Productive Relationships; Work Less, Do More; How to Finish Everything You Start, several novels and children’s books, Dr. Yager has been interviewed on Good Morning America, Oprah, Today Show, The View, CBS The Early Show, NPR, and other major shows.
