Maria Espinosa: Suburban Souls

The fifth and most recent of her novels Suburban Souls, tells a tale of Jewish German Holocaust survivors in 1970s San Francisco. Using her life experiences as a catalyst, American Book Award winner Maria Espinosa shows that despite tragedy, we can be resilient and still bring joy and happiness into our lives. Keying in on her own love-rage relationship with her mom who had an affair with her husband in one novel, Maria’s latest book Suburban Souls, brings the Jewish experience and her trials in a mental institution to the forefront. Concerned with human communication on a level that transcends the norms permitted by society, her novels focus on the subtle as well as the obvious forces that shape a human being.
