Many retired women are in the same situation. Retirement depression — feeling sad or lacking energy and focus after retiring — is surprisingly common. Lacking a purpose is the main reason so many people feel depressed after retiring from 40 years of working! Missing the social and intellectual stimulus of work are other common reasons for retirement depression. Losing the schedule and structure of work can be another emotional blow.
